President Donald Trump is pushing back forcefully against comparisons between his immigration enforcement record and that of former President Barack Obama, arguing the numbers being cited by some media outlets are misleading.
In two Truth Social posts Friday, Trump defended his administration’s record on arrests, removals and deportations while taking direct aim at Fox News anchor Shannon Bream for discussing reports that suggested Obama’s immigration enforcement was comparable.
“It was just announced that, and I’m not necessarily thrilled to be talking about it because it does not exactly sound NICE, the Trump Administration has the Highest Average Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP, including Total Detention, with Final Orders of Removal, than any other president, by far!” Trump wrote.
The president argued that ongoing litigation has slowed deportations but said his administration is still setting records despite those legal obstacles.
“The pending Final Orders are being seriously delayed by the Courts, but that is also a record,” Trump wrote. “President Trump has the Highest 12 Month Removal Total, by far, of any president, despite the fact that they fudge their numbers by including people that never even tried to come into the Country.”
He also claimed the administration has recorded the highest average daily apprehension and repatriation numbers in U.S. history.
“Likewise, the Average Daily Catch and Repatriation is, by far, the Highest under President Trump. No other president comes close.”
Trump then criticized Bream by name after she referenced claims that Obama’s deportation numbers were similar.
“So, when you hear these Anchors, Pundits, Dumocrats, and Communists, try to make the case that President Obama’s numbers are comparable to President Trump, it would be nice if people like ‘Milk Toast’ Shannon Bream, and others, would put up a little fight — Just a little. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Trump appeared to misspell “milquetoast,” a term commonly used to describe someone viewed as timid or overly passive.
In a second post, Trump broadened his criticism to include both the Obama and Biden administrations, arguing their immigration statistics counted categories that should not be compared to ICE removals carried out under his administration.
“For all of those who like to say that Barack Hussein Obama, and his Vice President, Sleepy Joe Biden, did as many Criminal ICE removals as President Trump, the figures are just in,” Trump wrote.
“Number One, they included hundreds of thousands of people that never came close to getting into our Country, a difference of perhaps 50% in the numbers.”
“We don’t include such categories but, even if we did, ICE and CBP removed many more Illegal Aliens under President Trump than under Obama — It’s not even close!”
Comparing immigration enforcement across administrations has long been complicated by changes in how the federal government classifies removals and returns. During the Obama administration, officials frequently included border returns, expedited removals and other enforcement actions in broader deportation totals. Immigration researchers have noted that those differing reporting methods can make direct comparisons difficult.
Trump has consistently argued that his administration uses a narrower accounting method and that previous administrations inflated their totals by counting migrants who never formally entered the United States.
Immigration enforcement has remained one of the signature issues of Trump’s second term. Since returning to office, the administration has expanded ICE operations, increased detention capacity, boosted deportation flights and fought a series of court battles over executive immigration authority.
Friday’s posts represented Trump’s latest effort to defend those policies while challenging media reports that compare his administration’s enforcement record with those of previous presidents.
