MY WIFE GAVE BIRTH TO TWINS WITH DIFFERENT SKIN TONES—THEN A DNA TEST EXPOSED THE SHOCKING TRUTH
If someone had told me that the day my sons were born would become the day I questioned everything I thought I knew about my family, I would have laughed.
After all we had been through, I believed nothing could possibly matter more than finally holding our children.
For years, my wife, Corinne, and I had dreamed about becoming parents.
We had endured appointments, treatments, disappointments, and three miscarriages that left emotional wounds neither of us knew how to describe. Each loss changed us. Each time we thought we were getting closer, something happened that forced us to start grieving all over again.
There were nights when I would wake up and find Corinne sitting alone in the kitchen.
She would have one hand resting on her stomach, even when there was no baby growing inside it.
Sometimes she talked quietly to the child we hoped would someday exist.
I would simply stand in the doorway and listen.
Then, finally, came the pregnancy we were afraid to believe in.
At first, we didn’t tell anyone.
We had been through too much to celebrate too early.
Every appointment made us nervous. Every phone call from the doctor’s office made my heart race. We counted weeks carefully, almost afraid that excitement itself might somehow tempt fate.
Then came the appointment that changed everything.
The pregnancy was progressing normally.
